Trainers in adult education

Are you Pro in your field? Do you wish to share your expertise? To work as a trainer you need more than subject knowledge and know-how. You need skills to communicate your knowledge effectively. In Switzerland, there are many courses that offer qualifications in teaching adults.

ToT: Training of Trainers

SVEB has been committed to professional trainers and quality teaching in adult education for years. Our ToT system includes training from classroom teaching to  managing training programmes. This training is open to everyone, regardless of the profession in which they teach.

Example 1: From professional practice to the classroom

A. is a nurse with many years of experience and is specialised in the care of people suffering from dementia. She loves her job and enjoys sharing her knowledge with younger colleagues and the relatives of her patients. She is now 40 and wants to develop further in her career. She can see herself teaching courses for the families of dementia patients. In order to do so competently, she could seek to achieve a teaching qualification, such as the SVEB-certificate. Hence she could teach courses and continue to working as a nursing professional.

Many routes to a career in adult education

There are many routes to adult education and training. 
Recently in addition to the ToT modular system, there are a wide range of additional qualifications to become trainer in adult education. For example, there is in the Trainer in Adult Education (College of Higher Education) as well as various certificates, diplomas and masters of advanced studies (CAS, DAS, MAS) offered by universities.


All of these qualifications have a specific emphasis. They differ, for example, in the ratio of theory to practice. Whereas ToT qualifications always have a strong practical orientation, a university CAS in adult education may have little reference to practice. Instead, it may provide more theoretical knowledge and the preparation for scientific research. Which approach is best for you depends primarily on what you wish to achieve with your training. Many times various approaches are combined.

Example 2: From science to practice

C. has been working as an organisational psychologist at the university for several years. He discovered his talent for teaching and completed a CAS in university teaching. Gradually, however, he finds it unsatisfactory to discuss questions of organisational psychology only in theory. He wants to impart his knowledge to companies. For this he needs teaching skills that are oriented towards practice. To this end he also obtains a federal diploma as a training manager in addition to the scientifically oriented CAS and runs in-house training courses for managers.
